PMIGLC Members Honored by ESD

PMIGLC honored two of its longest serving board members, Neil Goldman and Gil Rollins, at the Engineering Society of Detroit’s (ESD) annual Gold Award ceremony on March 29th.  Dr. Bill Moylan presented Neil and Gil each with the “Distinguished Leadership Award” for their exceptional service with PMIGLC.

Neil Goldman received his award for the numerous leadership positions he has held within the chapter, such as President, VP of Finance, VP of Membership, VP of Education, and currently serving as the Director of Seminars.  Gil Rollins has been a member of PMIGLC since 1996 and is the longest continuously serving member of the Board of Directors.  Gil is currently serving as the VP of Finance, and has previously held the positions of VP of Membership, VP of Administration, and the Director of Financial Operations.

The Gold Award ceremony, which was held at the Henry Ford College in Dearborn, recognized outstanding members from professional associations within the surrounding area.  Awardees from local associations included the Society of Women Engineers, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the International Council on Systems Engineering, and several other engineering societies.

2017 Academic Outreach - Oakland University Workshop

The PMIGLC Academic Outreach team organized a one day workshop on PM 101 Skills For Life at the Oakland University Elliot Hall on March 11th 2017.  The Oakland University AIS student chapter and DIS department sponsored the event and 30 students enrolled in the workshop. Attendees enjoyed the hands-on activities along with the real-world business examples provided by the outreach team. A certificate of completion was awarded to all attendees which they can use to enhance their portfolio. Special thanks to chapter volunteers Minimol Mathew, JoAnn Jachyra and Amy Rutledge for instructing the class and Julie Yasuhara, Grace Verville, Dana Fix and Debbie Ritter for leading and engaging the teams. Professional Development Opportunities

On-Demand Access to Monthly Meetings and Seminars

We are excited to announce a team of PMI-GLC volunteers are undertaking development of an on-demand rebroadcast option for monthly meetings and seminars.  The intent is to increase membership value by providing a way to obtain Professional Development that you’d really like to attend in-person, but occasionally cannot attend  - due to other commitments.  The initiative is early in development, and the team would like your input.  Speak-up if this potential new benefit  is of interest to you. Learn More.

PMI-GLC Academic Scholarship - Applications Now Open

PMI-GLC is is sponsoring an academic scholarship in the amount up to $2,000. The scholarship will be administered by the PMI Educational Foundation (PMIEF) Scholarship and Awards Program. PMIEF, a charitable nonprofit organization, supports development of the best and brightest future project management professionals worldwide by providing over 40 academic scholarships to college and university students studying project management and related fields. The Dr. Loran Walker Memorial Scholarship is not only an excellent way to help a student realize their dreams through education, but it is also an opportunity for the chapter and its members to engage local academic institutions and to help promote the chapter’s work as well as the project management profession.

Please help spread the word about this new scholarship opportunity.

Applications are due by May 1. Download the handout

In order to be considered eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be enrolled in or applying for an accredited two year associate's degree, four year bachelor's degree, masters, or doctoral program. PMI-GLC Needs Your Help to Support Current Initiatives and Grow the Chapter

PMI-GLC is always looking for members who want to be more involved with the chapter. This is a great way to support the growth of the chapter and earn valuable PDUs for re-certification. We are currently in need of volunteers for a number of committee projects in progress. In an effort to match your interests and skills with the Chapter's needs, we need some information from you. If you are interested in helping out on one of our committee projects, please fill out the Chapter Volunteer Information Form and send it to our Director of Volunteer Program  and you will be put in touch with the committee chair. Thank you for your interest in the GLC!

Don’t Miss PMIGLC-Branded Social Media Photographs at Upcoming Events!

Be sure to take advantage of a PMI-GLC brand improvement initiative that continues for only 2 more events in 2017. A trial was conducted in late 2016 to provide no-fee PMI-branded social media photographs to increase chapter membership value. Many have taken advantage of the offering, so the PMI-GLC Membership group will continue the offering at monthly meetings and Symposium through April 2017.

When you register for the event, do so early - weeks before the event. If photograph seats are still available when you register, also select the option to have your photo taken in front of a PMI-branded backdrop. Beginning with Symposium in April, larger GLC events may possibly be staffed with a professional photographer that will charge a nominal fee for this service.
