Monthly Meeting Topic:  Project Sponsorship – It’s not just about money

There is a perception that a sponsor is responsible for securing project funds and not much else.  That the sponsor does not need to be “bothered” with matters within the team’s control is another flawed assumption.  There are heavily involved sponsors.  And there are sponsors who are not.  Not to fault the sponsor.  In many cases senior executives tend to underestimate the time it takes to be a project sponsor. A sponsor whose time has been freed up from other work responibilities and have been trained on the role could be the difference between success and failure on projects. It is a role with high impact on the business outcome of the project.

Speaker: Ty Sarkar

As a multi-faceted professional, Ty blends business management and strong information technology background of 28 years to drive significant change in large organizations. His track record of success spans technology change management across healthcare, financial services, and discount retail verticals.  In his current role at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan he is responsible for restructuring and leading the IT Service Integration Office to standardize and optimize IT Service Transition (ITIL).

Ty is a PMP (1999) and has an MBA from Michigan State University.  An ardent Spartan he is working on convincing his 10-year old to be one after his 20-year old defected to Maize and Blue.

Monthly Forum Topic:  Technically Speaking

This workshop focuses on appropriately tailoring messages to stakeholders at various levels during the life of an engagement, specifically as it applies to technology implementations. Participants will learn how to apply the “rule of 3” to common scenarios during all phases of a project, considering questions of audience, tone, voice and cadence, and will leave with clear strategies for technology stakeholder management success.

Speaker: Danielle DeLonge

Danielle is a former Campus Executive Director who works with organizations and institutions to evaluate existing technology practices and leverage new IT resources to achieve greater impact. Prior to joining Plante Moran, DeLonge was a Salesforce Consultant with the Xede Group in Troy, where she employed CRM technology to help companies strengthen their relationships with customers. She is a certified project manager and Salesforce Administrator, specializing in leading organizations through change. Familiar with the nuances of nonprofit higher ed institutions, DeLonge managed the Lansing campus of Davenport University, where she created partnerships with the local community college and corporate groups to further student development. She has also sold corporate training, worked in the financial services industry and managed a statewide network of technology professionals for Automation Alley. She has an MBA from Davenport University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and currently works with the Technology Services department to help them understand when to communicate with their users versus when to train them.
