Academic Outreach


The PMI Great Lakes Academic Outreach program is focused on the advancement of the practice and profession of project management in local educational institutions (middle & high school, college, university). Overall objectives include driving demand for Undergraduate and Graduate programs in Project Management, promoting awareness of PMI academic standards, and reinforcing the value of project management to students entering into the corporate workforce as well as to the organizations that will employ them. 


  • Integration of project management into school curricula

  • Professional project management networking opportunities

  • Support for individual research efforts within the academic community on project management

  • Project/program management consulting and coaching for activities within local academia

  • Consulting on PMI academic certifications (Registered Education Provider, Accreditation)

  • Subject-matter expert presenters and speakers

  • Joint sponsorship for events related to professional project management

Academic Outreach has three tracks (focus areas):

Track 1 - Educational Institution Integration

Track 2 - Student Collaboration

Track 3 - Research Collaboration

Registration for the PMI Academic Network 

Register to join the PMI Academic Network to receive project management education news alerts and resources delivered to you via email. Participation in the Network is open to full-time, part-time or adjunct faculty as well to program directors and academic administrators who teach, develop or manage project management programs or courses. It is also open to faculty from schools that are interested in developing project management courses. Registration in the PMI Academic Network is free. http://pmief.org/

    • Investigate offering Project Management classes at high schools that will qualify for college credit

    • Organize PM 101 Skills for Life Workshop for Academic organizations

    • Partner with PMI Global on Educational Programs

    • Set up Academic Roundtable meeting

  • Partnerships with External Organizations

  • PMI GLC Scholarship - $2,000 scholarship for 2019
